Happy Birthday Bob Marley...

There once was a natural mystic blowin' through the air...  That natural mystic being one Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley.  Bob Marley and The Wailers popularized that distinctive Ska laced Reggae beat.

I first saw Bob Marley and the Wailers on a PBS special many years ago.  I'd never heard music that sounded like that and I was mesmerized by the dreadlocks which I hadn't seen before.  Then there was that beat.  Where did that beat come from?  There really aren't words other than, simply, 'who feels it knows it'.

The distinctive rhythm of The Wailers continues to influence pop music long after Bob's death from melanoma cancer in May, 1981.  You can hear that beat in the music of  No Doubt, WyclefThe Mighty Mighty Bosstones and  The Black Eyed Peas.  One man and one band altered the rhythm of modern music.

Thank you Bob Marley.  Happy Birthday and rest in peace.

Be My Anti Valentine...

Be My Valentine?  Let’s don’t and say we did.  Valentine’s Day is cool and all.  L.O.V.E.  You know I can dig that.  But do you sometimes find yourself in an “Anti Valentine” groove… a “Love Gone Wrong” groove; say Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra in the bad years?   If so, bitter lover, we’ve designed some fun T-Shirts and gifts just for you!

Keep in mind you can also rock our Anti V-Day t-shirts in an ironical way.  For instance if you’re going out with your perfect someone on Valentine’s Day, do so in our Anti Valentine gear.  You wear our sweet  “Cupid Is Stuck On Stupid”  Spaghetti Tank under your jacket or cardigan (belted, of course), while he wears the “Love Is For Losers” Long Sleeve T.  Guaranteed to be a conversation starter among your fellow bar mates.  Do it.  You know you want to!

Twinkle, twinkle Christmas lights...

It's a cold night in Cincinnati.  A relatively balmy 33 degrees fahrenheit.  'Tis the season for intentions of peace on earth and goodwill toward men.  We're inspired to write an oddFrogg haiku, lyrically styled and just for you!

In an empire state of mind...

You can count me among those who love New York City.   The city manages to seductively invoke the feeling of endless possibilities.  My first trip to NYC was so boldly surreal I will never forget it.   From that first moment of stepping into the lobby of the cool little Roger Smith Hotel in Manhattan, the city  invited me in and provided the full out royal treatment while taking in MOMA, the Met Museum, a game at Yankee Stadium, wonderful noshes at every turn, shopping in Tribeca and SoHo, dancing at SOB's, then poetry in the Village followed by late night Jazz at Bradley's.  Everywhere it was 1/2 price at the door, gracious cab drivers (really!), and the table right down front.  It was inexplicable.  The universe was smiling so I rolled with it.  I recall thinking, "I'll bet this is what it's like to be a diva".

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' recent outstanding (magnificent actually)  performance at the AMA's brought back memories of that trip and put me in an 'Empire State of Mind'.   Join me, won't you?

Cryin' for me...

Toby Keith's touching send off to his friend, Jazz musician Wayman Tisdale.   Truly beautiful.   Enjoy.
